A dog has died following a flat fire in Lake that saw firefighters from across the Isle of Wight sent to the scene.

Fire crews have been called to a vehicle fire on Newport’s industrial estate this afternoon.

A suspected electrical fault is believed to have caused a fire at a flat in central Ryde on Monday evening, tragically resulting in the deaths of animals inside the property.

One person was treated by ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Plans for the new East Cowes Fire Station on York Avenue were approved by the Isle of Wight Council last month.

The union said although the hotel was derelict, it was treated as a ‘persons reported’ fire because it had been occupied by a homeless person.

Emergency services were called to the hotel shortly after 6pm, with fire crews quickly tackling the blaze and preventing it from spreading further.

A blaze that tore through a derelict hotel in Sandown on Saturday evening (October 18) is being treated as suspected arson.

Crews from Newport, Ryde and Shanklin were mobilised shortly after 9.30pm following reports of a kitchen fire at the well-known shop and tearooms.
