Fire Crews Called To Second Blaze As Resources Remain Stretched

Firefighters are tackling a second fire on the Isle of Wight this afternoon, with crews responding to a field blaze near Rookley while a major operation continues at Headon Warren.

The latest incident is at Pidford Manor, between Rookley and Blackwater, where a large agricultural field has caught fire.

A fire engine from the mainland, which had been stationed on the Island to provide additional cover during the ongoing wildfire in the West Wight, has been deployed to the scene.

The fire is understood to have started during hay-cutting work, although the exact cause has not been officially confirmed.

The incident comes as Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service continues to deal with the significant heathland fire at Headon Warren, placing increased demand on resources across the Island.

Despite the pressure on crews, firefighters are working to bring the Rookley incident under control as quickly as possible and prevent the flames from spreading further.
