Firefighters Tackle Overnight Flat Fire In Sandown

Firefighters were called to tackle a fire at a flat in Sandown late on Saturday night.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 23:15 after black smoke was seen billowing from the top-floor windows of a block of flats in Albert Street.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised fire engines from Ryde and Shanklin in response to multiple 999 calls.

On arrival, crews entered the building and brought the fire under control from inside the property.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also attended the incident, deploying an ambulance and an operational commander, while officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were also at the scene.

The presence of ambulance resources indicates that injuries may have been sustained, although no further details have been released.
