Three Isle of Wight pubs are celebrating after being shortlisted in the prestigious National Pub and Bar Awards 2026.

Police have confirmed the death of a man in his 60s following a call-out to an address in Ryde.

The petition remains open online for Islanders wishing to show their support.

A coordinated response was launched as crews worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Ongoing waste collection problems affecting dozens of residents in Ryde are continuing to cause concern, with complaints raised over bins and rubbish blighting a town centre street. The issue centres on 68–74 George Street, where four former townhouses have been converted into 37 separate residential properties. Questions were put to Isle of Wight Council during a recent environment and community protection committee meeting, after concerns were raised from the public gallery

Recycling centres will remain open, but advance booking is required to help manage traffic and keep sites running efficiently.

The initiative has been introduced by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones and is the first service of its kind to operate across both counties.

A decision is due soon on plans to convert Chantry House into a 14-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation.
