Forensic officers have spent the day carrying out an extensive examination of the scene of a fatal stabbing in Sandown as detectives continue to investigate the death of a man in his 50s.

Specialist Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCOs), wearing protective forensic suits, have remained at a property in Downsview throughout Thursday, conducting a meticulous fingertip search for evidence that could help establish exactly what happened.

Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, were called to the address shortly before 7.00pm on Thursday following reports that a man had suffered serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the man later died after being taken to St Mary's Hospital.

Throughout the day, forensic specialists have been carrying out a methodical search of the property, with particular attention focused on one of the bedrooms as investigators gather and preserve potential evidence.

Officers from the mainland have joined local police as part of the ongoing inquiry.

A police cordon remains in place around the property, with a visible police presence continuing in the surrounding residential area while investigations continue.

A 14-year-old boy and a 47-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and wounding with intent.

Both remain in police custody while detectives continue their enquiries.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is continuing to appeal for information.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 44260293129.
