A woman and teenage boy arrested following the death of a man in Sandown have been released without charge after police concluded there were no suspicious circumstances.

At 7.11pm on Thursday (2 July), police were called by the ambulance service to reports that a man had been found with stab wounds at an address in Downsview, Sandown.

The man, who was in his 50s, was taken to hospital but, despite the best efforts of emergency services, he later died.

Based on the information available at the time, officers arrested a 47-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy at the scene on suspicion of murder and wounding with intent.

Following an extensive investigation over the past three days, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says it has established the circumstances surrounding the incident and no longer believes there were any suspicious circumstances relating to the man's death.

The woman and the teenager were released from custody on Sunday evening (5 July), with no further action to be taken against either of them.

Police say a file will now be prepared and submitted to the Coroner following the man's death.

Isle of Wight Area Commander, Superintendent Marcus Cator, said:

"Firstly, I would like to place on record my thoughts for the man and his family at this extremely sad and difficult time.
"I would also like to thank all those we have spoken to over the last three days for their cooperation and assistance in our investigation.
"These investigations are always very challenging for those involved and the community as a whole.
"All involved have helped us to further our investigation at pace and begin to achieve some answers for the man's family."
