Engineers have been working throughout Saturday to repair an electrical box after it was severely damaged when a car crashed into it in Newport.
The incident happened on St George's Way, outside National Tyres, where a Volkswagen Polo left the road and collided with the roadside electrical equipment.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at around 10:00am. Firefighters worked to make the area safe before specialist engineers from Scottish & Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) took over the incident.
Emergency crews have since left the scene, with SSEN engineers continuing repair work throughout the afternoon.
A safety cordon remains in place around the damaged vehicle while heavy machinery is used to replace the electrical equipment.
Despite the ongoing works, St George's Way has remained open, with traffic continuing to flow normally in and out of Newport.
The circumstances leading up to the collision have not been confirmed, although it is understood that no one was injured.
