Amber Rain Warning Issued For The Isle Of Wight As Downpours Continue

Residents in the East Wight are being warned to take extra precautions, as an amber weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office this evening (Saturday).

The warning - which has come into force somewhat unexpectedly - is expected to last until tomorrow afternoon and mainly affects the eastern parts of the Isle of Wight.

Central Wight and the West Wight remain covered by a yellow warning.

The Met Office says:

"Further heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight likely to bring some flooding and disruption across parts of coastal southern England."

We're told to expect:

  • Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
  • Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Fast-flowing or deep floodwater is possible

Forecasters suggest between 20mm and 40mm could fall in as little as 3 hours and could be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Earlier, flood alerts were issued for parts of the Isle of Wight.

Emergency contacts for those experiencing flooding can be found here.
