Funding Boost For Council Chairman's Chosen Charity

Councillor Claire Critchison presented local charity SWAY with a cheque for more than £1,800 during one of her final engagements as chairman of the Isle of Wight Council.

When Councillor Critchison became chairman in May 2022, one of her aims was to support and raise funds for South Wight Area Youth, a charity which provides activities, opportunities, mentoring and support for youth and families in the South Wight.

The money was raised from a variety of events including cake sales, guided walks, garden open days and the council's staff quiz.

Cllr Critchison said:

"It's really important to support youth provision in rural communities and providing opportunities for our young people.

"We're so lucky to have an organisation like SWAY in the South Wight and I'm so pleased I could support them in my own way.

"Thank you for everything that you do."

The cheque was presented to SWAY at the council's annual meeting last night (Wednesday).

SWAY was established in 2014 with the aim of bringing young people together in social groups and volunteering opportunities within their communities.

It runs regular meet-ups during the week, activities in the school holidays, residential trips and other special events.

More information is available on the charity's website.
