Portsmouth Ambassadors Get Behind The Scenes At Hovertravel

Portsmouth ambassadors have been given a behind-the-scenes look at Hovertravel as part of efforts to encourage cruise visitors to explore the Isle of Wight.

Members of the Shaping Portsmouth Ambassadors programme crossed the Solent by hovercraft on Tuesday (8 September), before taking part in a Behind The Scenes Tour at Hovertravel's Ryde terminal.

The eight-minute journey was followed by a tour led by one of the company's pilots, giving the ambassadors an insight into how hovercraft operate, as well as the engineering and history behind the service.

The visit is part of Hovertravel's support for Shaping Portsmouth's Cruise Meet & Greet programme, which sees volunteers welcome thousands of cruise passengers to the city each year.

The aim is to give ambassadors first-hand experience of the hovercraft so they can recommend a trip across the Solent to visitors.

Hovertravel says its sub-ten-minute crossing provides the fastest scheduled route between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

The company is also encouraging visitors to take part in its Behind The Scenes Tours or book a hovercraft journey.
