The scheme, commissioned by Isle of Wight Council and delivered by Island Roads, will involve removing tonnes of unstable earth and constructing a new retaining wall.

A section of Calbourne Road, the main route connecting Newport with West Wight, has been closed today following a landslip.

Police have thanked the local community for their patience and say the road will reopen in due course.
