⚠️ Drivers are facing disruption in Newport, East Cowes and Apse Heath after three emergency road closures were introduced for essential works across the Isle of Wight.

More delays, more diversions and now a full closure — drivers are being warned to brace for fresh disruption on one of the Isle of Wight’s busiest roads.

A temporary road closure has been put in place on Highwood Lane near Rookley to allow highway works to be carried out.

The scheme, commissioned by Isle of Wight Council and delivered by Island Roads, will involve removing tonnes of unstable earth and constructing a new retaining wall.

A section of Calbourne Road, the main route connecting Newport with West Wight, has been closed today following a landslip.

Police have thanked the local community for their patience and say the road will reopen in due course.
