Islanders are being warned to prepare for a wet and stormy start to the week, with a yellow weather warning issued today (Monday).

According to the IW Met Service, heavy, prolonged and occasionally thundery downpours are expected between 6am and 5pm, with the heaviest rain likely during this morning.

Rainfall will be highly variable across the Island — while some areas may see only a few millimetres, others could be hit by up to 30mm in a short space of time.

Thunderstorms are also possible in places, and forecasters warn of flash flooding in prone areas, along with stones, shingle, dirt and debris being washed onto roads.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to take extra care during the morning commute and to keep an eye on the latest local updates.
