Firefighters were called to tackle a house fire in Newport on Sunday evening.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at a residential property on Hunnyhill at around 7pm.

Crews from Newport and Cowes attended the scene, with three fire appliances mobilised to the address.

On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire within a ground-floor front room and quickly brought the blaze under control using hose reel jets.

Ventilation equipment was then deployed to clear smoke from the property and prevent further damage.

Following the incident, firefighters carried out a series of home fire safety visits at neighbouring properties before leaving the scene.

Hunnyhill was temporarily closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident, but the road has since reopened.

No information has been released regarding any injuries or the cause of the fire.
