Yacht Without Power Sparks Christmas Eve Launch For Bembridge RNLI

Bembridge RNLI was tasked to assist a 35 foot sailing yacht that had lost power in the early hours of this morning (Christmas Eve).

The RNLB Alfred Albert Williams was launched at 3.14am to assist the yacht and its one crew member, after it was reported to be in difficulty with no engine close to North Sturbridge buoy to the north west of No Mans Land Fort.

A 22m guard vessel, Haulbowline, that was operating in the area stood by until the Alfred Albert Williams arrived on scene at 3.30am.

A tow to Portsmouth was assessed to be the safest option in the 40mph winds and was quickly set up.

Having safely berthed the yacht at Gosport Marina at around 4.20am, the volunteer crew returned to Bembridge by 5am.
