Yacht Towed To Safety After Coming Aground Near Bembridge

Despite thunder, lightning and torrential rain, Bembridge RNLI lifeboat crew quickly responded to reports of a vessel aground yesterday (Sunday).

The RNLB Frank and Anne Wilkinson was launched after the Coastguard received reports of a 40 foot yacht aground at the entrance to Bembridge Harbour.

Three crew were said to be on board, with the boat described as being at risk of being blown onto the shore at St Helens Duver.

Soon after launching, it became apparent that the yacht had already been towed her back into the deeper channel by a nearby vessel.

Having checked that the yacht had subsequently made a safe exit of the rest of the Channel, the Frank and Anne Wilkinson returned to the boathouse and was recovered by 12.30pm.
