Woman Sustains ‘Minor Injuries’ After Car Crashes Into Tree Near Whippingham

A woman in her 50s has sustained — what police are calling — ‘minor injuries’ following a crash on the outskirts of Newport late last night (Saturday).

A red Smart car left the road and collided with a tree at Racecourse Roundabout, near Whippingham.

Emergency services, including Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue, were called at 10.49pm.

The driver suffered minor injuries, officers say, but the passenger — a man in his 80s — is said to have escaped injury.

A spokesperson for the force said:

We were called at 10.49pm on Saturday 3 December to a report of a single vehicle collision at Racecourse Roundabout, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. It was reported that a red Smart car left the carriageway and collided with a tree before coming to rest on the road.

“According to our logs, the driver, a woman in her 50’s sustained minor injuries. No injuries were reported in respect of the passenger, a man in his 80s. Officers attended along with the Ambulance and Fire service.”
