WightFibre Confirms Island Broadband Cold-Callers Are Scammers

WightFibre has confirmed that cold-callers, who have been knocking on doors asking questions about broadband, are scammers.

As first reported by Isle of Wight Radio this week, residents in Sandown, Ryde and Newport have been targeted.

Several people said that men were knocking on doors, asking ’strange’ questions about their broadband.

It has now been confirmed that it is likely to be a scam, and nothing to do with WightFibre.

A spokesperson for WightFibre said:

"We have noticed some reporting of people claiming to be from BT/EE and knocking on resident’s doors claiming that they are there to take over their WightFibre contract, and they must give them all their details to help them process the change over.

"This is clearly a scam, completely untrue, and we would like to warn everyone that if it happens to them, they must report them to the Trading Standards immediately and definitely not give them any information.

"If they feel threatened in any way they must call the police."
