Wet Leg Hoping To Be Named Isle Of Wight's First Mercury Music Prize Winners Tonight

Isle of Wight band Wet Leg are among the nominees in the running for tonight's rescheduled Mercury Music Prize.

The duo — Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers — will go up against 12 other acts, including Harry Styles and Sam Fender, for the award which recognises the UK and Ireland's best album release of the year.

Their eponymous debut LP went straight into the UK charts at number one on its release in April.

The prestigious awards ceremony, which takes place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith from 9pm, was originally scheduled to take place on September 8, but was postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the build-up to tonight's announcement, artists will each perform one track from their shortlisted album.

Arlo Parks was named Mercury Music Prize winner last year.

Wet Leg's exhaustive schedule next sees them tour Europe for the remainder of the next two months, before completing a handful of US dates in December.

Both Harry Styles and Wet Leg are due to play at Wembley on June 14 — a day before Isle of Wight Festival 2023 starts.
