Wessex League Action For Isle Of Wight sides

All three of the Island’s Wessex League teams return to action tomorrow (Saturday) with East Cowes Vics at home, and Cowes Sports and Newport travelling to the mainland.

Cowes Sports will be hoping to secure maximum points from their Wessex League, Premier Division game tomorrow (Sat) when they visit Fareham Town. Just two league games into the new campaign, the Yachtsmen and Fareham share an identical record of one home win and one away defeat. The Island team will be hoping to reverse that trend with three points on their travels, knowing a win could be good enough to move them into the top half of the table.

Cowes Sports will be back in Premier Division action on Tuesday night when they host Moneyfields at Westwood Park (7.45pm).

East Cowes Vics are at home to Andover Town in Division One, and will be hoping for better fortune than in their midweek game at home to Totton and Eling, which had to be abandoned after Jarod Cousins suffered what appeared to be a very serious injury in the 35th minute. It was feared he had broken an ankle, but further examinations after the abandonment revealed it was a severe sprain, which is still expected to keep him out for a few weeks.

Vics will be eager to build on their promising start to the season that has yielded five points from four games. Now their immediate aim will be to claim their first victory of the campaign on home territory, after their opening two league games at Beatrice Avenue ended all square.

Newport face a difficult trip to the mainland for their Division One clash. They will be taking on Downton, who have made an impressive start to the season, with 10 points from four outings to put them top of the table, at this early stage. Newport are just two games into their league programme, with one away win and one home defeat. They also lost their Wessex League Cup clash at Petersfield in midweek, so will be eager to regain the type of form that took the into the play-off final last season.

All three games involving the Island teams tomorrow kick off at 3pm.
