Trip Down Memory Lane For Newport Care Home Residents

Harold decided to take matters into his own hands when James Corden entered the museum unexpectedly.

Residents from Newport's Vecta House were treated to a special visit to the Wight Military And Heritage Museum earlier this week.

Harold and Doreen were able to relish the nostalgia of the memorabilia the museum had on show — both having worked in the forces.

Harold soon took over the role as a tour guide, having great knowledge of the rifles and items on display.

Doreen, meanwhile, reminisced over how she used to ride her bicycle to deliver letters during the war and her time working in the factory packing rifles and driving lorries.

Staff at the museum spent time talking to the members of Vecta House, and after they had finished enjoying the various displays the residents were able to hold and fire some of the guns.

Vecta House resident Harold said:

“It was a lovely morning and very interesting visit.

"I want to go every day — it brought back so many memories!”

Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, added:

“It is really important both to us and the residents that our trips out are meaningful, it was so wonderful to see the joy on Harold and Doreen’s faces and hearing them reminisce about the past.

"We all had lots of laughter, it will be a trip I will never forget”.
