Ten Week Disruption On Main Sandown Road As Wall Repairs Start

Ten weeks of disruption is expected on the main Sandown to Shanklin road from today (Monday).

Temporary traffic lights have been installed on Skew Bridge as works get underway to fix a wall.

The project is being carried out by Island Roads on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council.

It follows a previous incident when a vehicle collided with the wall causing damage to the structure.

During work, one lane on Sandown Road will be closed to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians.

Senior Project manager, Jason Boulter, said:

“The work is necessary to ensure the integrity of what is an important part of the strategic road network,

"While we have scheduled the work for outside of the holiday season, the temporary traffic lights will inevitably have an impact on some road journeys so we thank motorists in advance for their understanding.”
