Teenage Girl Charged After Incidents In Newport

A teenage girl has been arrested and charged by police after a number of incidents in Newport, including assault and criminal damage.

Police said that a 13 year old female has been charged with a public order incident, assault and criminal damage. She's also charged with an alleged drugs offence and theft - all of which were committed in Newport town centre.

Police said the victims of the incidents include shop staff and stores in the town.

The girl, who can't be named for legal reasons, will appear at the Isle of Wight Youth Court in the coming weeks.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said:

"Our team continues to target those children who come to the town and commit crime. We are working with partner agencies including Education, Youth Offending and the Community Safety Officer at the council to resolve these issues. We want people to feel safe in Newport.

"However these jobs take time to collate and to gather evidence and therefore on occasion there can be a delay in obtaining the outcome or resolution to them. It doesn’t mean we are doing nothing just that often jobs can sit with different departments until they are linked and dealt with."
