Suspected Drug Dealer Arrested In Sandown As Part Of Operation Spider

A suspected drug dealer has been arrested by police on the Cliff Path in Sandown, as part of Operation Spider.

South Wight Neighbourhood Patrol Team (NPT) was deployed yesterday evening (Wednesday), with a mixture of plain clothes and uniformed officers on foot, targeting anti-social behaviour (ASB) and drug supply/use in Sandown.

During the patrols, officers stopped and searched two males on the Cliff Path in Sandown using Section 23 of the misuse of drugs act. This stop led to the arrest of a 33-year-old male on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs, possession of an offensive weapon and obstructing a search under Section 23 of the misuse of drugs act.

The suspect was interviewed at Newport Police Station and an address was searched using Section 18 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. Controlled drugs, offensive weapons and digital devices were seized. The suspect has been released on bail and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers on patrol also arrested a 48-year-old male on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs following a positive drug wipe test at the roadside. He has been released under investigation.

Police said pro-active patrols will continue throughout Sandown, Shanklin, Lake and Ventnor as part of Operation Spider.
