"Submerge Disposable Barbeques In Water" Says IW Council As Fire Crews Called To Smouldering BBQ

Fire crews were called to an unattended 'smouldering' barbecue at Golden Hill Country Park this morning (Wednesday).

One appliance from Freshwater responded to the call, which came in shortly before 9.30am.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service used buckets of water to make the area safe.

The Isle of Wight Council is supporting calls to ensure disposable barbecues are discarded sensibly.

They've issued the following advice:

"Safely submerge the disposable barbeque in water overnight to make sure it has cooled off.

"Once completely cold, including the ash and embers put this in the general waste bin."
