Steps Taken To Complete Ventnor Cascades Project Ahead Of Schedule

Work to upgrade the Rene Howe Walk footway at the Cascades in Ventnor is progressing well with an important phase of the project set to be brought forward.

Island Roads is currently undertaking a 27-week project to replace the handrails and to resurface the popular seafront footway.

One phase of the scheme involves excavating Shore Hill so new reinforced concrete foundations into which the new railings will be fixed, can be set into the highway.

This will mean two-way traffic lights will be required for Shore Hill.

Though the initial schedule showed these lights being in place between October 30 and November 10, progress on site has been such that these dates are now being brought forward to between October 16 and October 27.

Project Manager Nathaniel Saunders said:

“We are delighted that we have been able to bring this phase forward which indicates the good progress we have been able to
make so far.

“Naturally we will continue to do all we can to complete the whole project ahead of schedule but we have to remember that this is an exposed site.

"In order to avoid the summer season – we are working throughout the winter when conditions for construction are not ideal."
