Shanklin Regatta Set To Celebrate 170th Year

Shanklin Regatta is celebrating its 170th year this year.

The event takes place on Thursday August 10 and is held on Shanklin Esplanade on the pier apron that once was the welcoming entrance to Shanklin Pier, and on the sandy beaches below.

Lyn Fleming, Chairlady of Shanklin Regatta, said:

“We can’t wait to welcome Island residents and visitors back to Shanklin Regatta as this is a big year for the committee and helpers.

"We have been working really hard and have increased the size for this year’s event by hiring land around the pier apron, adding more stalls with an aim to keep this event a free family fun day and night”

The event starts at 10am and will be followed by a number of traditional and new regatta events, including:

  • Lifeguard display from Ryde Lifeguards Drawing /Artist Competition
  • Huxley magic show
  • Shanklin Regatta Beauty Queen
  • Tug-of–war
  • Running races
  • Egg and Spoon race
  • Three legged race
  • knobbly knees
  • Street dancers
  • Raw Samba band

There will also be a bar, barbecue, pizza van, vintage funfair and evening entertainment with a “dancing in the street” pre-firework party with
the Keytar Man & Soundwaves Entertainment.

Due to the very high water this year, the firework display is being moved to the later time of 10.30pm.
