Second Teenager Sentenced Following Series Of Incidents In Ryde

A second teenager has been sentenced in connection with a series of incidents in Ryde.

The Ryde Neighbourhoods Policing Team investigated a number of incidents that occurred between September and December 2022, and charged three individuals as part of this.

A 16-year-old boy from Ryde appeared at the Isle of Wight Youth Court on Wednesday (January 18) for sentencing, having pleaded guilty to burglary and theft.

The burglary occurred on September 25 in WHSmith on Ryde High Street. The teen entered the store and stole £147 worth of E-cigarettes from behind the till area.

On October 5, the boy stole £32 worth of alcohol from Anglesea Street Co-op.

At the sentencing hearing, he was handed a 10-month Youth Referral Order, and ordered to pay £89.39 compensation to the businesses.

The YRO will require him to attend regular meetings with a Youth Offender Panel, and his parent/guardian must attend with him.

This follows the sentencing of a 14-year-old boy from Sandown who was handed a 6 month Youth Referral Order on December 21.

The boy had pleaded guilty to 6 counts of theft from a shop, relating to £303.50 worth of alcohol and a hotdog stolen between 31 October and 10 November from Co-op on Anglesea Street. Compensation of £152.25p was also awarded to the shop as part of the sentence.

A 13-year-old boy who was charged with offences as part of this investigation is due to appear at the Youth Court on February 1.
