Sauna On Every Corner: Rob Da Bank Reveals Ambitious Isle Of Wight Wellbeing Plans

Rob da Bank (left) hopes to bring saunas to each 'corner' of the Isle of Wight

In an extreme act of generosity, the Finnish Institute has donated a beautiful sauna to the Isle of Wight.

It's part of celebrated DJ — and proud Islander — Rob da Bank's vision to place a sauna on each ‘corner’ of the Isle of Wight and create a 'Sauna Isle'.

Rob was put in touch with the Finnish Institute through the national embassy and jokingly asked if they had a spare one.

The surprising reply was that they did indeed after a competition had run to design a sauna with a famous Finnish architect.

Rob then asked if they’d be willing to donate it and a deal was done.

The new sauna is the latest addition to the former Bestival guru's existing Slow Motion Sauna which has run all summer and autumn at Freshwater Bay and been hugely popular with both islanders and tourists.

Rob said:

"Finland has just won (the title of) 'Happiest Country of the Year' for the sixth year running.

"It’s no coincidence that a country which boasts more saunas than population is very happy.

"Saunas are incredibly beneficial for your physical and mental health and new studies are showing incredible new science at work all the time.

"I love making people feel good and running the sauna at Freshwater Bay has been so rewarding.

"It’s become a real community hub, raised money for charity as well as being a 'wow' Instagram moment for tourists with its mirrored glass reflecting our beautiful bay.

"I can’t wait to take both saunas to Tapnell this winter and out around the Island next year — I just need two more now!"

A plaque commemorating this episode will be unveiled in the sauna in November.
