A safety craft is being sought for this summer's Pier2Pier Sea Swim from Sandown to Shanklin.
Organisers fear the event — scheduled for Saturday July 22 at 3pm — may not be able to take place without the presence of a craft, kayakers and canoeists to paddle with the swimmers.
This swim is expected to attract around 200 swimmers who will swim across the Bay from Sandown Pier to finish by the site of the old Shanklin Pier which was lost during a storm in 1986.
Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, the Ryde Independent Inshore Rescue Lifeboat and members of the Shanklin Deep Sea Fishermen will also be in attendance.
Any kayakers or canoeists available to assist are asked to contact Andrew Dean by e-mail at: safetycraft@iowmarlinsswimclub
The 200 entrants include 84 Island Residents and 116 from the mainland, with ages ranging from 15 years-old to over 65.
