Rescue Teams Called To People 'Stranded' Off Shanklin

Coastguard and lifeboat teams have been called to reports of people 'cut off by the tide', off Shanklin seafront.

Six people are said to be 'stranded' at Horse Ledge, between Shanklin and Luccombe.

Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat is on route to the incident.

Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard teams have also been alerted.

*HM Coastguard has confirmed it received a report that there were people cut off by the tide.

It has since been deemed a false alarm with good intentions.

A spokesperson said:

"We Sandown and Shanklin independent lifeboat, Bembridge and Ventnor coastguard rescue teams.

"When they got there, everyone was ok – it was a false alarm but a phone call made to us with the best of intentions."
