Park And Ryde: Original American School Bus Arrives On Isle Of Wight

A converted American school bus - which has travelled to the Island from Texas - will be available for guests to stay in throughout 2023.

Onlookers will have spotted the big yellow bus making its way to the Island via Red Funnel ferries on Friday (April 21).

Freshly retired from the highways of Houston, the iconic split-screen bus - now based at the Retro Staycations site on Ryde's Ashey Road - is the only one of its kind on the Island.

The vehicle, known as 'Texas', which once carried up to 71 kids to and from school each day has been meticulously restored and converted into a cosy living space.

The interior is decorated with a retro theme, complete with rustic furnishings that harken back to a bygone era.

Retro Staycations Co-owner, Sarah Moss, said:

"With the original cab, driver’s seat and steering wheel fully intact, kids can travel anywhere their imagination cares to take them!

"We are so excited to be offering this unique accommodation option to our guests - the yellow bus is an iconic symbol of American culture.

"We are thrilled to have one here on the Isle of Wight, alongside our fleet of original silver bullet American Airstream caravans - the coolest caravans in the world!"

Further information about Retro Staycations is available on the official website.
