A small Isle of Wight primary school has continued its ‘Good’ Ofsted success, with one area highlighted as ‘Outstanding’.
Ofsted inspected St Helens Primary School in October and in its recently published report said the attention given to pupils’ personal development and wider opportunities was impressive, marking that section as ‘Outstanding’.
The government’s education watchdog said pupils arrive at the primary school, in Broomlands Close, excited for the day ahead and help each other, showing they are kind and caring.
Inspectors said pupils behaved well and lived up to the school’s high expectations, being keen to learn and achieve well.
The school ensures all pupils experience a curriculum that prepares them for the next stage of education and beyond.
Pupils enjoy their lessons and are motivated to try their best but inspectors said occasionally the tasks or activities do not always have a clear learning outcome.
Inspectors said this means a few pupils were not able to fully participate and make progress.
Teachers use a range of methods to help pupils remember what they had learnt but sometimes it moved on too quickly and assessments were not used as well as they could be to identify gaps in learning
Headteacher, Carl Wake, said he was delighted with the result and it reflected the team effort of the whole school community.
He stressed the importance of the staff, pupils, parents, governors and the St Helens community in general for their continued efforts.
He said they were all extremely proud.
