Newport Care Home Told They Still 'Require Improvement'

Blackwater Mill Residential Care Home has now been given the overall same rating for the past 6 inspections by the Care Quality Commission.

The Newport residential care home looks after nearly sixty residents over sixty five years old.

The CQC report states:

"Whilst improvements had been made since the previous inspection in July 2021 we found quality assurance systems had not been used effectively to identify areas for further improvement we noted during this inspection. At this inspection breaches of regulations were found including repeat breaches in relation to quality assurance, risk management and notifications.

"The key question Safe has consistently been rated requires improvement for the past 6 inspections."

The report adds the  provider had failed to ensure CQC was notified about all incidents as required and the Duty of Candour had not been fully followed.

"Individual risks to people had not all been assessed, recorded and updated. Environmental risks had also not all been fully assessed and actions identified to manage environment risks had not always been followed."

The report adds that people in the care of Blackwater Mill  and their family members gave positive feedback about the home and said that staff were kind and caring, also observed by inspectors on their visit.

"We are confident that these will be rectified swiftly and we thank residents and their families for their patience during this period.

"As always, the wellbeing of our residents remains at the forefront of our ethos."
