New Community Space And Artistic Inspiration At Ryde's Montage Place

Ryde's Depozitory building — transformed into a community space — will open to the public again tomorrow (Monday.)

A group from Monkton Arts have been beavering away at the venue in Nelson Street to create the vibrant new 'Montage Place'.

The goal is to provide a multifunctional and welcoming space in a rejuvenated building.

The official opening — between 5pm and 7pm tomorrow — will coincide with the launch of the "Many Ways to the Gateway" exhibition running until Friday June 2.

The exhibition glimpses at the history and future of Ryde's many transport links, as well as advertise the dedicated informative museums on the island.

In addition, last week saw the arrival of 'Wight Spirit' — a huge mosaic art piece celebrating the musicians of the original Isle of Wight Festivals of 1968, '69 and '70.

It took artist Guy Portelli more than two years to collect and mosaic in excess of 100 handprints of famous musicians.

Wight Spirit will be permanently housed at Montage Place where you can place your hand on your hero's hand and have a selfie!

Moving forwards, Montage will be available for venue hire; art galleries; informative exhibitions; music events; film showings; as a meeting space; for shared working and as a community and cultural hub.

Anyone interested in finding out more about Montage Space, or booking the venue, can get in contact with Jenna via the Monkton Arts website.
