More Heavy Rain Prompts New Isle Of Wight Flood Alert

Flooding is likely on some of the Isle of Wight's roads today (Thursday), the Environment Agency is warning.

A new flood alert is in force for the Eastern Yar.

Heavy rain in the last 24 hours, coupled with what has already fallen in the last week, means flooding is likely on Sandown's Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road.

Although the Island isn't expected to see much rainfall today, the Environment Agency has said more is on its way tomorrow (Friday).

A spokesperson said:

"Road, cycle track and footpath flooding is expected. At Langbridge and Alverstone Road Bridge, the river will be close to the top of the river bank.

"Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.

"We continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure any products used to protect gardens and property from flooding are operating."
