More Disruption As Ryde's Queen's Road Remains Shut For Next Week

Queen's Road in Ryde could be shut for the next week or so, leading to more misery for drivers.

Southern Water is continuing to carry out repairs to a sewer.

It's once again causing tailbacks along Binstead Road, as it did last week.

Apologising for disruption, the utility firm said it couldn't put an exact finishing date on the works.

A spokesperson for Southern Water said:

"We are sorry for the disruption caused by the closure of Queen’s Road. We are working to clear a resin-type building material from the sewer there.

"We have tried jetting, but due to the nature of the material it requires specialist contractors to break it down, and we must wait for them to start. We are unsure how easy it will be to remove the material so it is hard to estimate a completion date.

"In the meantime the dig to access the sewer has been completed and we are using tankers and over pumps to maintain services to local properties – so that they can continue to use kitchens and bathrooms as normal.

"The road has to be closed to ensure the safety of workers and road users. Once we have accessed the sewer and removed the blockage we can investigate how it entered."

An Island Roads spokesperson said:

"Southern Water contractors still working hard at Queen’s Road, Ryde. They hope to complete later this week or early next. We will continue to update.

"Please avoid the area if you can."
