A man remains in police custody this afternoon (Sunday) after being arrested in the sea yesterday afternoon.
Officers attended Ryde Pier alongside Coastguard teams and Ryde Inshore Rescue, where the man had jumped into the sea in an attempt to evade capture.
The 41-year-old male from Sandown was wanted in relation to a domestic incident which had been reported a short time before.
The man – who had a bag of alcohol and was wearing fishing waders – was arrested on suspicion of using violence to secure entry to a premises.
He was arrested shortly before 2pm and is currently in police custody.
