Man Arrested In Connection With Newport Burglary And Knifepoint Robberies

A man has been arrested following a series of robberies and burglaries across the south, including on the Isle of Wight.

A 43-year-old, from Southsea in Winchester, has been detained on suspicion of dwelling burglary in connection with an incident in Newport in July.

On July 7, it was reported that a house on Clatterford Road was broken into while the occupants were out.

The man is being held on suspicion of three counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, one count of possession of a Class A drug and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker in connection with an assault that took place during his arrest.

It follows a series of knifepoint robberies across Havant, Portsmouth, Eastleigh and Southampton.

  • On Wednesday 19 October at approximately 3pm a man entered the CEX store at the Meridian Centre in Havant and threatened staff with a knife. He attempted to steal one of the tills but left shortly afterwards. Nothing was taken.
  • At approximately 4.10pm on Wednesday 19 October a man entered the CEX store on London Road in Portsmouth, threatened staff with a knife and left with around £1500.
  • At around 2.30pm on Monday 24 October a man entered the CEX store on Market Street in Eastleigh with a knife and took cash from the tills.
  • Between 3 and 3.15pm on Monday 24 October a man entered the Co-op store on Parkville Road in Southampton with a knife and stole a pack of beer.

Nobody was injured during any of the incidents.

He remains in police custody at the current time.
