Latest Setback Sees Floating Bridge Stop For Maintenance WITH People And Cars On Board

The ill-fated Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge has broken down this afternoon (Thursday) — with people and cars onboard.

It is the latest in a long line of mishaps for the ill-fated vessel, which has spent significant periods out of commission since coming into service in May 2017.

An eye-witness at the scene said that the crew were aware of the issue while loading people on, before informing passengers that they had maintenance work to do.

The Floating Bridge subsequently stopped during service.

It is now limping across as a slow pace, with no indication as to the status of the service beyond this trip.

We have contacted the Isle of Wight Council for further updates.

UPDATE 1pm:

The Floating Bridge has returned to normal service as of 12.45pm.
