Jury Finds Isle Of Wight Man Not Guilty Of Murder

An Isle of Wight man has been found not guilty of murdering Scott Cooper.

Piers Carl Brazier, of George Street, Ryde was charged with Cooper's murder, following an extensive investigation by detectives from the Major Crime team.

Police attended a flat in George Street, Ryde on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 4, 2022 where the body of the 33 year old - who was from Newport - was discovered.

He had been stabbed multiple times.

Brazier, 38, denied the charge of murder against him - with a jury at the Isle of Wight Crown Court today (Thursday) unanimously finding him not guilty, following a second trial.

The murder trial was the first to be held on the Island for almost 30 years.

*Detective Chief Inspector, Adam Edwards, said:

“Officers worked tirelessly to bring this investigation before the courts.

“We are disappointed by today’s verdict however we must respect the jury’s decision.

“We hope that the public remain reassured that we will always do everything in our power to investigate incidents such as these thoroughly, to support the families of victims, and to protect the wider public.

“Our thoughts remain with Scott’s family and friends.”
