Isle Of Wight's Chessell Pottery Plans To Offer Accommodation

A popular Isle of Wight craft attraction is looking to extend its offering by installing holiday accommodation.

Chessell Pottery, in Shalcombe off the Middle Road, is most known for its working pottery with visitors able to paint mugs, plates, bowls and other items.

It also has a cafe and outdoor area.

Now, in a planning application lodged with the Isle of Wight Council, the pottery is looking to demolish a side extension to build a replacement, as well as installing a new roofspace to include a three-bed holiday flat.

The work will provide new storage facilities, with the new flat built over the existing cafe area.

Documents submitted to the council by Paul Stack Chartered Planner say the current storage building is in a poor state of repair.

Plans show the replacement roof will have the same ridge height and have black metal finish with roof lights providing light to the holiday unit.

The documents say the proposed works will continue to ensure the success and attraction of the pottery as a destination for visitors.

The holiday unit would add to the economic viability of the business.

You can view the plans, 22/01503/FUL, on the council’s planning portal. Comments can be made until October 14.
