Isle Of Wight Rugby Players To Tackle The Mountains For Suicide Prevention Charity

Seven Isle of Wight rugby players have set themselves a tough out-of-season challenge.

The magnificent seven from Sandown and Shanklin RFC (The Hurricanes), supported by Wightlink, are tackling the notoriously tough Three Peaks Challenge later this month to raise money for a charity aimed at preventing suicide in young people.

They will aim to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England’s Lake District and Snowdon in Wales, within 24 hours on May 19 and 20.

The team is taking on the challenge in aid of the charity Papyrus, which aims to prevent suicide in young people.

The Hurries4Change players Sam Tyson, Sam Rees, Sam Dawson, Tom Marriott, Rich Brownrigg, Ross Simpson and Will Baxandall will be supported on their journey by Paul Dyson and Hurricanes coach Andrew Steward.

They will travel up to Scotland by minibus (sponsored by The Way Forward) after crossing the Solent with their ferry transport sponsored by Wightlink.

Rugby Captain Sam Tyson said:

“Playing for Sandown and Shanklin has brought us all together and we've faced many challenges on the pitch.

“This is a new challenge for us as a team and we'd like to help give back. Papyrus do really important work preventing youth suicide and that’s an issue that is on the up in the UK.”

Phil Delaney, Wightlink Commercial Director, added:

“I am sure these seven will do their very best to tackle this tough challenge, displaying the same teamwork and commitment as they do on the rugby field.

"Wightlink is pleased to offer its support to this very worthwhile charity.”
