Isle of Wight Radio Partners With Youth Trust To #BanishtheBlues

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust and Isle of Wight Radio are joining forces as part of an initiative to support young people with their mental health.

#BanishtheBlues takes place next Thursday (9), with participants asked not to wear anything blue and to donate a pound to the Youth Trust.

Founded in 1984, the Isle of Wight Youth Trust is the Island's largest independent charity dedicated to providing counselling and wellbeing support to children and young people aged 4-25.

NHS research now shows 1 in 6 children under 16, and 1 in 4 young people aged 17-25 need support with their mental health.

That’s between 5 and 8 children and young people in an average class of 30 and represents around 6,000 of those aged 4-25 on the Isle of Wight.

Youth Trust Chief Executive, Jo Dare, said:

“Young people on the Isle of Wight need the support of the Youth Trust.

“We are asking the whole Island community to come together to help raise vital funds.

"We know many people are struggling financially right now which is why we’re asking people to donate £1 — or what they can."

Jo will be joining Paul and the team on the Isle of Wight Radio breakfast show — Topping in the Morning — next Wednesday (February 8).

Isle of Wight Radio and Total Sense Media Group Managing Director, Claire John, comments:

“We are excited to be partnering with the Youth Trust to launch this campaign and raise awareness and funds to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people on the Island.

"Now, more than ever before, young Islanders need their support.”

How to take part

Taking part is simple — avoid wearing blue (and preferably wear something bright) on Thursday February 9 and donate £1 to The Isle of Wight Youth Trust through this link.

Post a photo on social media, tagging @iowyouthtrust, using the hashtags #BanishtheBlues and #Iamthe1.

Will you be the ONE who donates £1 to the Youth Trust to enable them to provide support to thousands of children and young people in need on the Island?
