'Isle Of Wight Council Is Trash!' - Vandals Scrawl Graffiti On Lake Toilet Block

Members of Lake Parish Council are calling for more to be done after a toilet block was targeted by vandals - again.

The words 'IOW Council is trash!' have been scrawled on the outside of the block at Lake Cliff Gardens.

Over the weekend, a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour were reported in Lake and across the Bay.

Lake Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Brading, said:

"We’ve seen the vandalism of the Toilets in Lake Cliff Gardens, graffiti on signs and other locations, and this follows incidents at Battery Gardens, and we are working with Sandown and Shanklin to secure a meeting with the Police & Crime Commissioner."

Lake are currently investing in new toilets on Lake Cliff Path, as well as consulting on plans for a new facility at New Road, and are encouraging local residents to report any incidents to the police.

Vice-chairman, Cllr Adrian Whittaker, added:

"The ongoing anti-social behaviour of a mindless few, adds to the costs of providing services, as well as stops us investing in new activities and services – and we are talking to the police about possible a stronger local presence."

There has been an increased local police presence following incidents on the local railway, as well as following criminal damage at derelict properties in the Bay.

Cllr Brading added:

"We need to work together to deal with the issues, not just move them from one location to another, and we are already in talks with Sandown and Shanklin to share resources, as well as meet with statutory agencies."
