Investigations Continue Following Fire At Derelict Parkbury Hotel In Sandown

Investigations will continue today (Wednesday) into what caused a fire at a derelict hotel in Sandown.

Crews from Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin - along with the Aerial Ladder Platform - were called to reports of smoke pouring from the former Parkbury Hotel, shortly after 7pm.

Additional support from crews at Cowes and East Cowes - and the Incident Command Unit - were also called to the scene.

Crews used breathing apparatus to enter the building, along with hose reel jets, to put out the fire.

The quick action of crews meant the fire was contained to the ground and first floors of the property, which has been vacant since 2018.

The Broadway was closed, but has now reopened.

It’s not known at this stage what started the fire.
