INTERVIEW: Isle Of Wight's Lauran Hibberd On Album Chart Success

Isle of Wight singer-songwriter Lauran Hibberd admits she "never thought" she'd be performing music as a full-time job, let alone celebrating official chart success, after her debut album reached the UK top 40.

Just days after its release, Garageband Superstar, is 37th in the list of midweek biggest-selling artist albums.

The former Carisbrooke High School student, who signed for Virgin Records just last year, only launched her album on Friday (19).

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio this morning (Wednesday), she said she puts her success down to two things: hard work and her mum.

"My mum was so set on me having a job which wasn't 9am till 5pm because she always hated hers so she was like 'do something fun, do something fun'. So I kind of picked up a guitar and was obsessed with it instantly.

"I think the key is to work really, really hard and keep trusting yourself and keep belief in music. Basically never stop and don't take no for an answer is basically what I've done.

"I don't really know how I've ended up here but it's super fine!"

Taking inspiration from the likes of Green Day and Limp Bizkit, Lauran said she'd describe Garageband Superstar as a combination of both rock and pop.

She is currently touring the country and she said she is "happy as long as she can keep gigging".

Not letting her success overwhelm her, Lauran's feet remain firmly on the ground.

She will be back on the Island for a homecoming at Strings Bar and Venue in Newport on September 30.

Garageband Superstar is available on all streaming services. It can also be downloaded on Apple Music and Amazon.

Vinyls, CDs and cassettes can be bought on Lauran's website, here.
