Hugh Feanley-Whittingstall Announced For Inaugural "Great Wight Bite" In Cowes

A new food and drink festival is coming to the Isle of Wight - with award-winning writer, broadcaster and River Cottage star Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall among the notable names involved.

The Great Wight Bite launches in Cowes on September 9 and 10.

Taking place at Northwood House, the festival aims to celebrate every part of the island’s food scene and put the Isle of Wight on the map as one of the UK’s most exciting foodie destinations.

A rustic style Chefs Demo Stage will be home to leading Island based chefs including the award-winning chef patron Robert Thompson.

For foodies looking to learn new skills there will be a Masterclass Kitchen where you can book a culinary experience with a local expert or producer.

Whether you’re looking to sharpen up on your fish filleting skills, try pasta making or pan-Asian dim sum, or fancy indulging in a gin masterclass, there will be a delicious program of activity across the weekend.

The Great Wight Bite will also see the launch of the “Little Chefs Den” where budding young cooks can pop on a chef’s hat, learn about food, get messy, and enjoy a range of fun classes.

Festival organisers will be teaming up with the Cowes based Little Gloster Cookery School, whose creativity and passion for local and sustainable food will help curate a brilliant weekend’s entertainment.

Event Director, Domine Nowell, said:

"We are thrilled to be launching our new food and drink festival on the Island - home to some of the south’s most exciting chefs and restaurants.

"Combined with one of the best growing climates in the country, the produce from land or sea is simply incredible.

"Our aim is to showcase the whole food chain and provide a platform for the Island’s food businesses to shout about their craft and expertise."

Festival goers can expect to feast and shop from over 80 stalls spanning cuisines from around the world that include paella, crispy duck, churros, Caribbean, tacos, oysters and tapas among other offerings.

Commenting on attending the Great Wight Bite, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall said:

“The Isle of Wight has a great farming and fishing heritage and is home to some exciting food and drink producers and restaurants.

"The Great Wight Bite has something for everyone, it’s also great that the festival is working in a range of sustainable ways, something I have long been passionate about.

"See you all at Northwood House!”
