Gurnard Pines Swimming Pool To Stay Open — If Members Pay £300 Per Month

The Gurnard Pines site could yet retain its swimming pool — with organisers asking the public to support its continued function.

Terry Prosser, Director for Phoenix Zone Ltd, which will oversee the running of the facility said:

"The cost of the pool is expensive — our gas supply alone will be circa £60,000 per year if the pool remains in use.

"As I was washing up this morning after breakfast I thought, 'if all these people are willing to pay £10 a day — less than the cost of 20 cigarettes — to use the pool and we can get at least 100 to sign up to membership we will be able to keep the pool open.'

"Following several requests to “save the pool” I will be offering “pool only membership” at £300 per month but must have a minimum sign up of 100 people to cover the basic running costs of the pool.

"I just want to see whether there are 100 people out of the 142,000 that live on the Island willing to put their hand in their pocket to keep the pool open."

Terry is asking those who are interested in paying the membership fee to e‐mail enquiries@phoenix‐zone.co.uk and provide your full name, your e‐mail address and a contact telephone number.

What happens next

Terry adds:

"If we get to 100 people, we will send a link to sign up for the pool only membership, your first £300 payment will be taken straight away and your second payment will be taken one month after we open up the pool.

"For example, if you paid your £300 on 27th February and the pool opens on May 1, your second DD will be taken on 1 June 2023."

If fewer than 100 people sign up Terry says he we will refund all money collected and continue with plans to re‐purpose the pool.
