Godshill's Munsley Bog Boardwalk Re-Opens

A new boardwalk across Munsley Bog in Godshill offers families with young children a fun way to explore the great outdoors.

Today (Wednesday) saw the 1st Rookley and Godshill Beavers join Gift to Nature and other partners in celebrating its official opening.

Natural Enterprise’s Gift to Nature, which manages the site, has worked in partnership with Isle of Wight Council’s Rights of Way team and Godshill Parish Council to replace the old boardwalk.

Green Gym and other volunteers also helped to clear invasive species from the area to protect this valuable wetland habitat.

Brian Friend, Chairman of Natural Enterprise, said:

“We hope that local families will have fun looking for the troll and enjoy being close to nature at the same time.”

As well as a classic story, which is accessed via a QR code, Gift to Nature has created a sensory trail with the help of 1st Rookley and Godshill. Scouts.

Visitors are encouraged to use all their senses to experience the site in new ways.

Darrel Clarke, Rights of Way Manager, said:

”It’s great to have some positive news at a time when the rights of way network is suffering so many problems due to the weather.

"This scheme is a prime example of partners working together to significantly improve a popular footpath in a challenging area.

"Rights of Way would like to thank everyone involved and especially Gift to Nature for coordinating and undertaking the works.”
