Furzehill Fundraiser Hopes To Send Reece To Japan For Pioneering Cancer Treatment

Reece Payne

A Shanklin childcare centre is holding a fundraiser for a father of two in need of cancer treatment.

Organisers from Furzehill — based on Albert Road — hope to help Reece Payne raise enough money for groundbreaking therapy in Asia.

The 35-year-old has stage 4 bowel cancer and his only hope of recovery is to go to Japan for adoptive-cell immunotherapy treatment.

The Furzehill Fundraising Extravaganza will take place on Saturday February 11 from 10am until 4pm.

A Just Giving page, set up on Reece's behalf, has so far raised just shy over £19,000 — almost 40% of its £50,000 target.

Reece is father to three-year-old Olivia and one-year-old Amelia.

A spokesperson for Furzehill Childcare Centre said:

"Every year, we choose a charity to fundraise for and Reece's story has touched all of us, so there was no better cause.

"We are also holding a bake off, which we are inviting all Islanders to take part in!

Other activities on the day include a raffle, Disney dance-off, Baby Bootcamp and tombola.

Reece is hoping to head to Japan at the end of February for treatment.
